Croton Man Celebrates 60 By Releasing New CD
CROTON-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. -- Lawrence Savell's new album celebrates a
milestone by looking back.
Savell, a Croton-on-Hudson resident, just released "Dream World" in honor
of his 60th birthday. The album, Savell's eight, revisits and reinterprets
songs that he has written over the last 40 years.
"You get to be a little retrospective when you turn 60," Savell said.
"It's a milestone. It makes you take stock of who you are. I was able to
remember who I was at different times in my life. You can look back at this
stuff and appreciate it."
Savell, a lawyer, was able to record most of the album at home, with his
mother designing the cover art.
Over the years, Savell said his musical tastes have evolved and he has a
greater appreciation for country music, taking his kids to see Glen Campbell
on his farewell tour. Savell said his family is generally supportive of his
musical efforts.
"One son rolls his eyes and the other son listens to my music on a daily
basis," Savell said.
One of the things Savell would tell his younger self is not to put things
off.
"The worst thing you can do is let an opportunity go by," Savell said.
"Maybe there's someone who wrote the first chapter of a book they never
finished. They should pick up that book and try to finish it.
