2007 Winter Meeting Minutes and Awards Twelve hardy softball lovers braved the Nor'easter to attend the annual winter party and meeting hosted by Gil Schmerler and Anne and Andy Atkinson. After an hour of food and visiting, we commenced our SFLOI work. Chaired by Havelock Hewes, the meeting lasted 90 minutes and covered all new business placed on the floor. 1. Proposal that we follow recent PSAL baseball decision to outlaw metal bats: defeated. 2. Proposal to limit batter to two rather than three strikes: defeated. 3. Proposal to outlaw bunting: defeated. 4. Proposal to allow pinch hitters: defeated. 5. Proposal to eliminate annual October Series: passed. 6. Proposal to play a monthly "Theme Game" : defeated 7. Proposal to play 4 "Theme Games" each year: passed. (Anyone interested in volunteering for the Theme Game Committee, contact Havelock.) 8. Proposal to play one game "backwards": defeated. 9. Proposal to elect a tribunal to adjudicate serious disputes among players: defeated. DUES: Re-set at $30 per season. List of dues paying members will be posted online. PINCH RUNNER RULE clarified. Pinch runner should be last available offensive lineup player to have made an out. HAVELOCK WILL DECIDE all questions of where and whether to play on Sundays before and after our core permitted season at Hecksher during April thru August. Warming the bench in case of his absence or incapacity? Gil Schmerler and Andy Atkinson. STATMEISTER 2007 will be Joe Gerber. His caddy? Seung Lee. Make sure they get all score cards. GIL WILL CONTINUE AT TREASURY. CARL WEINBERG WILL RULE in event of any umpiring decisions involving interpretation of the ASA Rulebook as supplemented by our few quirky rules which we have passed over the decades. (Note: 1. We need an ASA rulebook at the game every week. AND 2. Someone, preferably with a law degree, needs to codify and publish our rules. Any volunteers?) ANTHONY CONNOR WILL SERVE AS ACTING SECRETARY until another volunteer comes forward. Please see me if willing. DAVID ROSENGARD will continue writing his column VIEW FROM THE MOUND. Guest columnists are also welcome! Submit commentary to anthonyconnor@optonline. Keep it clean. Awards were voted.
