Dave (and reports by a few others) 2005 WORLD SERIES
Final Series Games: Recap of Games 5,6 2005 World Series 11/13/05-Hastings ,NY At the time this story begins Connor team lead 3-1 and Hewes has just returned from a 3 week hiatus in Bermuda. Hewes pitches for Hewes team and Loarte pitches for Connor and makes his 3rd start in the series(1-1).Hastings a 17th century provincal town where softball is played as it was at the time of softball's invention in Chicago,Ill. 1887 where it
was first coined affectionately as indoor baseball.Loarte threw the first pitch using a 12 inch ball that was seamless and weighed 7 oz. After 2 outs were recorded the next 3 batters for hewes's visitors were Hall,Weinberg and Scheider who I call the 3 bears because of their constant
to and fro motion on the field singled and Hewes led 2-0.Connor's did not score off Hewes in the 1st.Hewes led 6-2 end of 5th.Loarte got Hewes team in
6th and 7th but Connor team scored 2 in the 6th but Hewes team made a good
defensive play as Gerber gambled and lossed and was out at the plate;this play helped
focus Hewes who had walked 5 in the game and he got out of the jam and got
out of a jam in the 7th to win it.I felt we escaped and now we faced game #6. In Game #6 there was some polemic between Havelock and Anthony Connor around
Loate starting a 4th series game. Hewes who is a journeyman ballplayer who is a stickler for tradition and affectionate superstition often displays humorous ire threw off his cap and
talking about Connor wanting to win and willing to change the rules.Connor
agreed to replace Loarte with himself and pitch .Connor did pitch and made his 3rd start .It was a shut out thru 3,in
the 4th Hewes team scored 3;Schneider doubled in 2 and Hall singled him in.Connor came back with 2.After 2 outs Schmerler gave up a single to Schuman and Vernick walked and Phil Ciccone tripled in 2 runs. Hewes added 1 in the 4th Doughtery tripled and Holzwasser singled him in.Hewes team did not score the rest of the way. Schmerler pitched welland he needed 9 more outs
to win.He got 8 outs in the next 3 innings holding them scoreless then going 6 2/3 innings lead
4-2 Vernick singles between 2nd and 1st and Ciccone singles and trying runs are on base.Gerber
Singled into a centerfield gap and it was 4-3. The with runners on the corners Loarte tripled into left center to win the game and the series for Connor team .Final was 5-4.
